Fees and Funding

What allied health support costs at ANDI, and the five ways people pay for it.

You should know what something costs before you decide whether to have it. Every fee we charge is quoted in writing before your first appointment, including the parts people usually find out about later.

Not sure what applies to you? Ask before you book. Working out your funding is part of our job, and it costs nothing to find out.

Money is the question people are most afraid to ask

Nobody wants to be the person who asks what it costs before asking whether it will help. Ask anyway. We would rather have that conversation at the start than have you stop coming halfway through because the bill was a surprise.

Allied health pricing is genuinely confusing, and not always by accident. Fees differ by service and by clinician, rebates cover part of a fee rather than all of it, funding pathways have their own rules about what they will and will not pay for, and the items people forget about, like report writing, travel and missed appointments, are usually the ones that hurt.

So this page sets out the pathways, what you are actually paying for, and the terms that apply when plans change. The exact figures for your situation come in your quote, because they depend on the service, the clinician and which pathway you are using.

If cost is the thing standing between you and getting help, tell us that. Sometimes there is a cheaper way to answer the same question, and occasionally the honest answer is that another service is a better fit for your budget. We would rather say so.

The five funding pathways

Which of these applies depends on the service, your age and your circumstances. Most people use one. Some use two.

Paying privately

No referral, no eligibility decision and no waiting on an agency. You pay the quoted fee, and you can start as soon as there is an appointment.

NDIS funding

For participants with a current plan. What it covers depends on your goals and your budgets, and it does not stretch to everything we offer.

Medicare rebates

For eligible services, with a GP referral and a care plan. A rebate covers part of the fee; you pay the difference, and there is a limit on the number of sessions.

Private health extras

Depends on your level of cover and how much of your extras limit is left. Your fund is the only one who can tell you the exact rebate, and it is worth ringing them first.

Home Care Packages

The usual pathway from 65, and from 50 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Support is drawn from your package budget and starts with My Aged Care.

What you are actually paying for

A fee is rarely just the hour you are in the room. Being clear about the rest of it is the difference between a quote you can trust and a bill you have to query.

Assessments are quoted as a package rather than by the hour, because the work is spread across intake, testing, scoring, a feedback session and a written report. Therapy is quoted per session, with any additional items named up front.

The items a quote should name

  • Session time. The appointment itself, at the length agreed for that service.

  • Preparation and notes. Planning a session, writing it up and the communication that follows it.

  • Reports and letters. Anything written for a school, a GP, an insurer or a funding body, quoted before it is written.

  • Travel. Where we come to you, at home, at school or in the community. Agreed in advance rather than added later.

  • Assessment packages. Intake, testing, scoring, feedback and the report, quoted as one figure rather than assembled from parts.

  • Missed or late-cancelled appointments. The terms are in your service agreement, and we will remind you of them rather than spring them on you.

Paying us, and changing plans

The administrative half of the answer. Neither of these should ever be a surprise, so both are set out before your first appointment.

Payment options

How you pay depends on your funding pathway, and we will set it out in writing before anything starts.

  • Private clients are invoiced for the session, with the payment terms named on the invoice.

  • Plan-managed participants have invoices sent to their plan manager.

  • Self-managed participants are invoiced directly and claim through the portal.

  • Medicare and private health rebates are claimed after the session, once the fee has been paid.

Cancellations and missed appointments

Life happens, and we would rather you told us than did not turn up. The notice period and any charge are in your service agreement and on our cancellation policy page.

  • Tell us as early as you can, and we will try to move the appointment rather than cancel it.

  • Illness and emergencies happen to everyone, and we take that into account.

  • Where funding pays for a late cancellation, it comes out of your budget rather than ours, which is worth knowing.

  • If appointments are repeatedly hard to keep, tell us. Changing the time or the format usually works better than paying for empty slots.

Questions about cost

Can't see your question?

Our team is happy to talk it through before you book anything.

Why are the prices not listed on this page?

Because a single number would be misleading. What you pay depends on the service, the length of the appointment, the clinician, whether a report is involved and which funding pathway you are using. Ring or send an enquiry and you will get a written quote for your actual situation, usually within one business day.

Does a Medicare rebate cover the whole fee?

No. A rebate covers part of the fee and you pay the difference, which is called the gap. Rebates apply only to eligible services, need a GP referral and a care plan, and are limited to a set number of sessions. We will tell you the fee and the expected gap before you book so there is no guessing.

Can I use Medicare and private health for the same appointment?

Not for the same session. You claim one or the other, so it is worth working out which leaves you better off, and that depends on your level of extras cover and how much of your limit is left. Your fund can tell you their rebate, and we can tell you ours, and between the two the answer is usually obvious.

Is everything you offer covered by the NDIS?

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. What a plan pays for depends on the goals and budgets in it. Some of what we do is funded by most plans, some by very few, and some not at all. We will go through your plan with you and be clear about which parts of what you are asking for it will actually cover.

What if I cannot afford the service I need?

Tell us. There is often a cheaper way to get to the same place: fewer sessions with more work at home, a different funding pathway, a shorter piece of assessment that answers the specific question, or a public or community service that does what you need at a lower cost. We would rather point you somewhere useful than watch you go without.
